As with many other functional problems of the digestive system, many specific herbs have been used to treat constipation. Constipation is a symptom, there are no true specific treatments. A dietary approach focusing on the rational use of fiber is the most effective.

  • INCI

    Yellow dock (Rumex crispus), dandelion roots (Taraxacum officinale), senna (Senna alexandrina), anise (Pimpinella anisum), Alcohol denat. (from Saccharum officinarum. 

  • POSOLOGY

    Adults: up to 5 ml 3x/day. Not recommended for children under the age of 12, unless supervised by clinical herbalist or healthcare professional. 

     

  • WARNING

    The use of laxative is no substitute for a treatment of an underlying disease in which constipation is a symptom.  Valid uses of laxative agents include maintaining soft feces, preventing straining at the stool (especially in the elderly and clients with cardiac disease or hernia), and evacuating the bowel prior to diasgnostic or surgucal procedure. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen.  Do NOT use more than ten (10) days without medical supervision. 

    If constipation i sdrug-induced, lowered dosage or use of alternatives should be be attempted before using laxative medication. 
     

  • CONTRAINDICATIONS

    One of the ingredients, senna, should not be used by people with blocked intestines, stomach irritation that causes cramping, or intestinal conditions like appendicitis, colitis, Crohn's disease, or irritable bowel syndrome. It is also not safe for those with unexplained stomach pain, hemorrhoids, or anal prolapse. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, and children under 12 should also avoid using this tincture. Aniseed may interfer with the activity of anti-coagulant therapy. Consult your clinical herbalist to obtain a custom formula.
